Workshop  for SC/ST Research Scholars 2009 'Theme: Critical Theory / Critical Practice'  April 22-29, 2009

The Department of Cultural Studies will be conducting a workshop for Dalit and Adivasi research scholars as part of its larger commitment to Dalit/Adivasi issues and scholarship. An important  objective of this workshop is to create a relaxed social atmosphere in which learning, teaching and bonding can take place.

The Curriculum of the workshop will draw on the research scholars’ knowledge and their experience  to facilitate intensive and focused discussion on Critical theory/ Critical
Practice and the basic concepts in Cultural Studies. Spread over 7 days, the course will include three hours of teaching (based on readings) and one hour of student presentations followed by a special lecture every day. The workshop will also provide opportunity for upgrading the written and oral presentation skills of the research scholars.

A large part of these exercises will be carried out by a pool of resource persons. Apart from regular interaction with these resource persons, the research scholars will have the opportunity of engaging with guest speakers who will be invited during the course of the workshop.

Eligibility: SC/ST candidates registered for   M.Phil/ Ph.d (broadly in Humanities, Social Sciences and related areas)  in recognized Universities and Institutions.

Application: The applicants are required to send a 500 word description of their research  topic, a copy of caste/tribe  certificate and  a copy of curriculum vitae  along with a covering letter  to The Head, Department of ultural Studies, EFL university, Hyderabad 500 605 on or before April 17, 2009.

ACJ offers full scholarships for up to 4 Dalit students in the Class of 2010. The scholarships cover tuition fees, accommodation expenses and a living allowance per month. Aspiring candidates may apply and take the entrance test at one of the locations specified. ACJ will invite successful candidates for an interview at the college. ACJ will reimburse candidates shortlisted for the interview for a second class train fare from their places of residence to Chennai and back. Candidates seeking this scholarship must produce proof of their caste and economic status.
