NCHRO Holds Biennial General Assembly-2017 in Bengaluru PDF Print E-mail

altBengaluru: The National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) held its Biennial General Assembly-2017 on Sunday, May 21, at the SCMI House, Bengaluru.

Apart from office bearers of national and state NCHRO chapters, executive council members and special invitees attended the General Assembly.

Adv. Muhammad Yusuf, the national secretary welcomed the delegates. Prof A Marx chaired the sessions. The assembly discussed in detail the current human rights situation in the country and the delegates expressed their anguish in the increase in vigilantism and violence in the name of cow. They observed that in most of states the authorities work hand in glove with violent groups and do not take punitive legal action against the mobs that attack Dalits or Muslims on one excuse or other. There is pall of fear and silence throughout the country which calls for better coordination among rights bodies and secular groups.
The house also discussed and approved the 2017 – 2019 strategic plans and finalized state level programmes of 20th Anniversary of the Confederation.

altBengaluru, May 21: The Biennial General Assembly of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) elected its new office-bearers for a three-year term (2017-2019) here at the SCMI House, Bengaluru on Sunday. The delegates representing NCHRO State chapters, Exco members and Special invitees elected NCHRO’s leadership and Executive Council.

altOn 17 May 2017, Gautam Navlakha together with the activists, inaugurated the new NCHRO office, in New Delhi.

Gautam Navlakha, prominent journalist and human rights activist has said We need to Unite to protect our Rights.
In the wake of growing atrocities against the historically deprived and marginalised groups,  we need collective action leading to people’s movements that results in social change, he added.

Ravi Nair, Executive Director of the South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre, E M Abdul Rahiman, Chairman of the Empower India Foundation,  AS Ismail, Popular Front of India National Executive Council Member, Ashok Kumari, NCHRO Delhi Chapter President and Ansar Indori, NCHRO Exco member also spoke at the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by invited guests.
