Writer M Rasheed bags Mukundan C Menon award PDF Print E-mail

Writer M Rasheed has been chosen for this year's Mukundan C Menon memorial award.

Instituted by the Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (CHRO), the award carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and citation would be presented to him by Kerala Forest Minister Benoy Viswam at a function here on December 10, award committee chairman A Vasu told reporters here today.

The committee also decided to confer a special award on film director P T Kunhumohammead of 'Pardesi,' which highlited the problems faced by Pakistan citizens of Indian origin residing in northern Kerala, he said.

Mumbai, Jun 26: Different communities living in this country should join hands together to counter state terrorism, so that each and every individual is able to lead a dignified life.
Muslims all over are now being targeted in fake encounter killings in the name of terrorism while earlier other downtrodden masses were shot down in the guise of them being Naxalites. These were some the viewpoints expressed in a near unanimous voice by different speakers at the National Seminar on fake ‘Encounter Killings’ organized by the National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) here today, in association with Amnesty International India.

GROW Vasu to receive Mukundan C Menon Award PDF Print E-mail

A. Vasu is better known as Grow Vasu, which is symbolized with his independant trade unionOne of the best known human rights activist in Kerala, Mr. A. Vasu (GROW) will receive the first Mukundan C Menon Human Rights Award, said CHRO officials in a press briefing.

 

The award was instituted to remember Late Mukundan C Menon and support initiatives for human rights activities in the state, in line with CHRO’s broader objectives. Criteria for the selection of the award is based on recipient's efforts on  resistance against imperialism, fascism and state sponsored terrorism, protection and respect for human rights issues of oppressed people like Adivasi (Tribals), Dalis and minorities, women and children and sustainable ecology.

Mr. Mukundan C Menon, Secretary General of Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (CHRO) and Resident Editor of Thejas News Daily, died on 12 Dec, 2005 at 8.45 A.M at KIMS hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. He was 57.
