altBangalore: - The NCHRO convened a two day Workshop on Human Rights which took place on August 6 & 7 in Indian Social Institute, Bangalore. The workshop covered a wide range of topics. The workshop demonstrates that there is a lot of interest in how to teach human rights in social work education.

The sessions addressed current and pressing human rights issues and involve in depth discussions on steps to moving forward to improve the current human rights situation in our country.

 

Agenda and Topics covered in the workshop as below:-

Welcome Address and Opening of the NCHRO Workshop on Human Rights – Mohammed Kakkinje, General Secretary, NCHRO – Karnataka Chapter.

Introductory Remarks  –Jnana Murthy, Organizing Secretary,  NCHRO – Karnataka Chapter.

Inauguration – C.S Dwaraknath – Ex Chairman, Backward Class Commission, Karnataka.

Session I:  Documenting Human Rights Violation and the Illegal Practices of the Police against Citizens – Adv.B N Jagdish, Bangalore.

Session II:  Human Rights Situation in India and Need of Human Rights Activism - Adv. S Balan,  NCHRO Karnataka Chapter President and Senior Lawyer at Karnataka High Court.

Session III:  Media and Human Rights, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru, Professor of Journalism, Mysore University.

Session IV:  Effective use of RTI, Adv. Kashinath, Bangalore.

Session V:  FIR to Trial : Procedures and Documentation in Regular Penal & Draconian Laws, Adv. Ashraf Uppinangady.

Session VI: Fact Finding Modalities, Mohammed Kakkinje, General Secretary, NCHRO – Karnataka Chapter.

Session VII: How to be a Firm and Steadfast Defender of Human Rights, Mohamed Janib, National Co-ordinator, NCHRO.

Guest Talk  : Muhammad Saqib, State President, Popular Front of India, Karnataka Chapter.
