Grants available to research Dalit women

Print journalists in India can apply for a fellowship to research Dalit women’s health and human rights. The fellowship runs from May 2007 to March 2008, and all applications must be received by April 10, 2007.

The fellowship includes a research grant of INR45,000 (US$1,018) plus travel expenses, and provides editorial support from a panel of qualified experts. Fellows are expected to produce a series of works that explore issues relating to Dalit women’s health and human rights.

Journalists with experience in health and development issues should submit three samples of published work; a brief (500-word) explanation of why the applicant should be considered qualified; two professional references; and a curriculum vitae. Applications should be marked "Media Fellowships on Dalit Women's Health."

Journalists writing in Indian languages are encouraged to apply. However, the CV and the write-up should be in English and at least one sample of the applicant's work must be translated into English.
